The Black & Blue Festival – Inspiration METROPOLIS starts soon ! Don’t miss the event of the Fall !

September 30, 2014

The BBCM Foundation will present the 24th edition of the Black & Blue Festival from October 8 to 14. The main event, will take place at Palais des congrès (201 Viger St. West) on Sunday, October 12, from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning, under the theme “Inspiration METROPOLIS”, linked to the mythic film Metropolis by Fritz Lang (1927).

The main event
Many surprises are in store for this year’s participants who will dance to the sounds of an impressive selection of DJs !

From Europe: Bent Collective (Danny Verde and Steven Redant), Pagano, Tom Stephan, and COYU.

And from Canada : Pascal B, Philip White, Stephan Grondin Michael Chidiac , Scott James, Project Offset, Tomac, Hollow Earth, Ross, Dave Nadz, Chris Element and Bloodline.

The DJs will play in two rooms: one featuring House music, and the other one featuring mainly Trance music.

This second room will also present an original innovative “silent disco” concept in partnership with Sennheiser who will lend headphones to the participants offering three different frequencies giving the choice of three different styles of music from 10 pm to 10 am. Also, on the Sennheiser stage, the band, LES MUETANTS will present a live show. LES MUETANTS offers a unique electro‐jazz experience and specializes in the concept of « silent concerts » for which they compose their specific music.

It’s also near this special musical space that the mythical Fritz Lang movie, METROPOLIS, the inspiration behind this year’s Black & Blue
theme, will be presented in its entire version. The music played in the room, as well as the ones on the headphones, will provide a musical ambiance for the movie presentation and will allow the participants to choose the one they prefer.

Many shows will be presented in the special Metropolis inspiration environment, created by the production team lead by artistic director Penny Lebrun, which will totally immerse the participants. During the night, choreographer Patrick Guay (with the BBCM dancers) will create a special thematic show, accompanied by Kathleena de Vipere and Ramiro Von St‐Laurent’s podium dancers. The acrobats from Trampo‐Mur of InSalto will present a wild performance that will shake the walls and push the limits, and Zephyr & Alix will do a ‘dance pole’ act. A special performance by the singer Lauréanne Guérard, accompanied by contortionist Mireille Chamberland and her partner is also planned.

To help create the METROPOLIS inspiration atmosphere, Jean‐François Rochefort will provide some advice and his help to create the costumes and Pat Painting will do the Body Painting (Patpainting.com).

Other events of the Festival

Many other events will take place during the Festival such as some favorites like the JOCK BALL (Thursday, Oct. 9) at Apollon and BAL EN CUIR (Friday, Oct. 10) presented at Usine C for the very first time, with DJs Scotty Thomson and Marc Paquet and Alain Jackinsky. Also, the BBCM will present a new party, BEARS & FRIENDS, at Espaces des Arts on Saturday, October 11, in collaboration with Testo(stérone), featuring, Djs Mark DeMarko, John Lepage and the legendary DJ/producer Morabito. After hour parties will also take place on Friday and Saturday in a special Black & Blue venue at 1439 St‐André Street. The week‐long festival also includes cocktails, pre‐parties, a gay volleyball sports tournament, a museum visit at McCord’s museum, a play at Centaur Theater and a special theatre presentation by Village Scene.
